Size Guide

What we carry

Every shoe on this site is a women's US size. Sizes run from 5 to 13, including half sizes, and widths are listed as M for medium and W for wide. Not every style is cut in every size and width — what exists for a given pair is what appears in the size and width selectors on its page.

Measuring your foot

Do this at the end of the day. Feet spread over the course of a day, and a shoe fitted to a morning foot is tight by evening.

  1. Put a sheet of paper on a hard floor against a wall.
  2. Stand on it with your heel touching the wall, weight on the foot.
  3. Have someone mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe. That is not always the big toe.
  4. Measure from the wall edge of the paper to the mark.
  5. Repeat for the other foot.

Use the larger of the two measurements. Most people have one foot slightly longer than the other, and the shoe has to fit that one.

Choosing a width

Width is about the ball of the foot, not the length. Medium is the standard width shoes are cut to, and it suits most feet. Choose wide if standard shoes feel tight across the ball of your foot while the length is right, if the sides of your feet press against the upper, or if you already know from past purchases that you take a wide fitting.

Going up a size to buy width does not work. A longer shoe in the same width is still the same width across the ball, and the extra length lets the foot slide forward, which puts the widest part of your foot in the narrowest part of the shoe.

Fit by shoe type

A pointed toe does not need a longer size. The point sits beyond the toes and is empty space; sizing up to reach it leaves the heel loose.

Slingbacks, mary janes and buckled sandals adjust at the strap, so they tolerate a slightly less exact length than a plain slip-on pump does. A slip-on flat or loafer has nothing to fasten and has to be right off the shelf.

Boots and booties are worn with thicker socks more often than pumps are. If you wear a heavy sock, check the fit with that sock on.

We would rather you asked

We do not publish a conversion table, because the length that a given size delivers moves with the shape of the shoe, and a table that is right for one pair is wrong for the next. If you are between sizes or unsure about a width, call us on (718) 633-8800 and tell us the pair and your measurement. We fit feet in the shop all day and it takes a minute to answer.

You are also welcome to come in and be measured at 4520 18th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204, Sunday to Thursday 10:30 AM – 7:30 PM and Friday 10:30 AM – 2 PM. We are closed Saturday. All times are Eastern.
